Strawberries & Wonder
I’m happy to be connecting with you here, whether you are an old friend or new! I’ve been so grateful for the launch of my product line, Sarah Side Co. and the wonderful reception it’s had.
Amidst the holiday retail & launch bustle, I wanted to take the time to sit and reflect, and share a glimpse into the design process.
As a creative and spiritual individual, having the opportunity to create from a sacred and quiet place has been a gift. To be able to take an emotion, sentiment, image or idea and translate it into clay, stone and sketch has been lifegiving. Because of this, when asked which piece is my favorite it’s been challenging to choose just one - so many have come from that special place of musing.
For instance, the strawberry charm necklace. At the beginning of this year the word I got for 2020 was “Wonder”. A sense that newness was on the horizon for my family and me.
And with that word came the image of a strawberry--which can often symbolize rebirth, or a spring. Outside of the obvious global catalysts for change--covid, elections, etc--there have been a variety of circumstances that have created a wave of change for my family and me. A major one being me leaving my job as lead designer at a large fair trade jewelry company, and starting my own brand. This, and some of the other changes have been either hard or sad at times, but most of them surrounded by the optimism and imagery the strawberry evokes.
As part of my daughter collection, the Strawberry charm was designed to share that feeling of youthful optimism for the wearer as this winter 2020 fades away, springing into newness.
